Guide to Millbrook with Anthony Bellomo & Christopher Spitzmiller
Celebrating Fall at Roseview, the scene was set with a tabletop design by Anthony Bellomo of Orangerie. His artistry, paired with that of his husband, renowned ceramicist and tableware designer Christopher Spitzmiller, brings effortless elegance to every gathering. Few know Millbrook better than this dynamic duo, and together they share their favorite local spots and what makes this Hudson Valley village such a special place to call home.
Q: For someone visiting Millbrook for the first time, what’s the one thing they shouldn’t miss?
Anthony & Christopher: There is a wide-range of shops up and down Franklin Avenue, and there is something for everyone with items from the very high end to the unexpected bargain find. We always encourage people to spend some time checking out the various retailers and restaurants. The commercial district of Millbrook is very charming, and old-fashioned in the best possible way.
Q: Where are your favorite places to eat or grab a coffee in town?
Anthony & Christopher: We love Babette’s Kitchen for a coffee and a casual lunch.
Q: Millbrook is known for its antiques. Any insider tips for the best shops or finds?
Anthony & Christopher: There are some great places for antiques and vintage items. Antony Todd and Creel and Gow both offer exquisite options, and the Millbrook Antique Mall has many booths all under one roof and is a great place to poke around for something unique.
Q: Beyond shopping, where do you go to spend a perfect fall day here?
Anthony & Christopher: Wethersfield Estate and Garden is a fantastic place to visit. It was built as one of the great estates of the Millbrook area and is now open to the public. The garden is amazing and the views are breathtaking.
Q: You both have a strong connection to home and design. How does Millbrook inspire your own work and style?
Anthony & Christopher: Millbrook is a classic all-American town that has deep traditions rooted in country sport and gracious entertaining. Those traits very much inspire the design work we both do and the way we live at home.
Q: Any hidden gems (restaurants, trails, historic sites) you’re willing to share?
Anthony & Christopher: It’s always great to support something locally made, so we often will take friends for dinner at Tenmile Distillery which is very near Millbrook. They have a beautiful bar where they offer a great drinks menu of cocktails made with their own carefully crafted spirits.
Q: What do you love most about Millbrook?
Anthony & Christopher: The scenic beauty of the area is what drew us here. It's a magical place with a truly country feel, yet still close to the city.
