A Holiday Chat With Our Favorite Mood Boarder
Nestled in a studio in Charlottesville, VA you’ll find Robin Verrier also known as @verryrobin_co on Instagram, a commercial prop stylist, and photographer. Many know her through the highly-artist and visually-pleasing mood boards that have become a sensation on social media. We worked together with Robin this summer for our #SummerMoodChallenge, and are it again with a holiday spin. We sat down with the mood board guru to talk all things #AHolidayMood.
1. Favorite Holiday Tradition:
Lucky for me, most of my favorite holiday traditions can still take place this year. (Even with Covid craziness) because most of my favorite activities take place at home. Some of my favorite traditions involve making an arrangement, wreath or gift for the holidays. So you can find me on weekends with my mother (who passed the green thumb on to me) creating delightful centerpieces, beautiful holiday wreaths and other festive floral gifts! (And don't forget foraging for bittersweet and other wild goodies to include!)
2. Who Are You Currently Listening To:
During the holidays, I love to listen to holiday tunes and other music I heard growing up. (I always say the holidays are like one huge nostalgia bomb and I just love those warm and cozy feelings all December long!) Some of my favorites include: Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Josh Grobin, Michael Buble as well as all of the modern holiday albums. Dolly Parton released a new holiday album this year (A Holly Dolly Christmas) and I'm quite looking forward to that!
3. Favorite Sweet Holiday Treat:
Gosh, there are truly so many delicious things I love to eat during this fun winter season. But I have to say one of my absolute favorites is my Mom's Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie. It's absolutely insane. Here's a recipe from Southern Living- you absolutely MUST try it!
4. Holiday Decor Tips:
My Mom and I have some serious green thumbs. So we love to cover our homes in dreamy greenery as much as possible. My Mom creates a gorgeous wreath for the front door so I try to do this with her for my home as well. We also forage for Bittersweet which is a wild berry on a vine and we love to adore our mantles with them, the tops of our front doors, chandeliers in the house... If you can hang it there, it's happening! I just love that this time of year is about togetherness and tradition so these are things I look forward to all year long.
5. Favorite Holiday Gift You've Received:
Ok, so this is super hard. (I've received many beautiful holiday gifts over the years!) But when I was little my Grandfather started giving me nutcrackers (because I did ballet and was in The Nutcracker for a few years) and he would give them to me each year after a performance and I'd absolutely treasure them. I'd write my age and the date on the bottom and would start putting them on display. He's no longer with us, but I look forward to bringing them out each year and adding to them myself as the years go by. (And yes, I still write my age and date on them - hah!)
6. Go-to Hostess Gift
My Mother got me into this one (do you see a theme here?) But we create Paper white gifts each year for our loved ones. And the way that we do it is we source antique vessels and vases from our antiquing adventures all year long, and then in the winter, we fill them with white gravel and Paper White bulbs. We then add pretty ribbon and cards and give them to our friends to enjoy. We also do this with Amaryllis bulbs too. (I think this year my Mom is also going to create cooking baking sets in jars and I'm making Ina Garten's Pimento Cheese recipe.) We're going to be pretty busy this December...
7. Holiday Wardrobe Musts From J.McLaughlin:
There are honestly so many, but my top two are the Bowen Midi Dress (again, this baby can be dressed up and down) and the Aubrey Blazer in Houndstooth. I also can’t get enough of the classic camel coat below, the Lauretta.
