Travel Guide: A Beacon Hill Weekend
The beauty of a charming and culture-filled city like Boston, is that it works as the perfect escape for all seasons. Whether you’re planning a late summer getaway or crisp fall weekend—our editorial director, Micaela English, shares some of the favorite stops she discovered on her latest journey to check out our quaint Beacon Hill store.
To Stay:
170 Charles Street
Hotel Diaries: The curiosity shop esque lobby of the Whitney Hotel.
The ‘it’ boutique hotel of Beacon Hill with a verdant backyard (perfect for an al fresco bite or sip). Everything in this teeny hotel—from the oat milk cappuccinos to the carefully curated books on the bedside table is a thought-out treasure. Expect Tate’s complimentary Tate’s chocolate chip cookies on every floor, Frette linens on the bed, and the friendliest service around.
I can’t recommend The Whitney enough.
To Wear: New England Classic
To Stay:
34 Charles Street
Our Charles Street store is quite frankly one of my favorites. With a fireplace, an expansive women’s section, and tons of pre-fall styles in rich olive greens, leopards, and browns, you’ll feel the instant familiarity of a J.McLaughlin store with that eponymous Boston flair.
To Find Home Treasures:
53 Charles Street
Let Your Heart Fly: Butterfly art at Thieves Next Door.
I walked into this home store after obsessing over the curiosity shop inspired walls at the check in desk at The Whitney. Unexpected quirk is abound in this treasure trove of unique home decor, butterfly art, fragrance, beauty, and interesting finds. For hostess gifts, or the perfect little something to take home with you from your weekend to remember.
To Wear: The Charles Street Look - Chic With A Twist
To Latte:
70 Charles Street
Sweet & Delicious: A box of freshly baked Tatte treats.
I visited this location four times on my stay (Reader’s note: I was only in Boston for two days). Between the Tatte House Latte (a dreamy combination of honey halva and cardamom), the legendary shakshuka, and the buttery baked goods, this is the be all and end all must stop bakery and coffee shop in Beacon Hill.
To Wear: Cozy Cool (Coffee) Running Attire
To Visit:
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
25 Evans Way
In Bloom: The breathtaking indoor garden at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
While not in Beacon Hill, the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum, aka, a living breathing cultural paradise is a must-stop on my list for any traveler headed to Boston. Beyond its wide breadth of curated art under the guidance of art collector Isabella Stewart Gardner (1840–1924), the gardens and mysterious and unconventional life of Gardner seeps through the museum walls. As does the curious case of the art heist that occurred in 1990, a priceless collection of Vermeers, Rembrandt’s and Degas stolen and a case that is still unsolved. Expect to feel perpetually inspired and intrigued after your visit.
