J.McLaughlin Local Guides:

San Marino

Just a few minutes northeast of downtown Los Angeles, find the charming, upscale neighborhood of San Marino, an area renowned for its beautiful streets and estates. A short drive from USC, this area is an undisturbed nook of SoCal. J.McLaughlin is located right on Mission Street (2533 Mission Street) at the heart of this tranquil community. Grab your favorite pair of sandals and stroll along with us as we take you through the hidden treasures of San Marino.

San Marino's pride and joy is The Huntington, one of Los Angeles County's most famous cultural landmarks. In 1919, railroad magnate Henry E. Huntington and philanthropist Arabella Huntington established this major institution. The Huntington consists of a library, expansive art collection, and 120 acres of landscaped gardens. In the art galleries, enjoy a thoughtfully curated selection of 15th to 20th-century European art and 17th to 20th-century American art. Highlights include works by world-famous artists such as Mary Cassatt, Edward Hopper, and Andy Warhol. On the Huntington premises, you'd also be remiss not to explore the expanse of 16 gorgeous landscaped gardens. Must-visit spots include the lush Japanese, Chinese, and Desert Gardens. Keep your eyes out for beautiful orchids, camellias, cycads, and bonsai all throughout the Huntington gardens.

You can also enjoy green space in other spots around San Marino. For a peaceful morning stroll, meander the beautiful Lacy Park — take advantage of all 30 acres of its shady trees, benches, and walking loops. Take time out to walk your four-legged friends or sit down for a low-key picnic. Throughout the year, Lacy Park is known for hosting civic events and concerts.

For a shopping fix, stop by the Mission Village, which is home to over 30 independent shops, eateries, and salons. J.McLaughlin is right here along with other charming boutiques such as Single Stone and The Monogrammed Home. After you finish your shopping, pick up delicious meals from local favorites such as San Marino Cafe and Marketplace and Julienne
