A LOW COUNTRY LOVE LETTER | J.MCLAUGHLIN ON SEA ISLAND

Of all our many J.McLaughlin communities, Sea Island, Georgia holds a special place in my heart. Long ago, my parents honeymooned on the Golden Isles, as these barrier islands are also known. When my brother Jay and I opened our first store in New York, we named it Sea Island Clothiers. As part of our signature collection, we designed our own shirts made of Sea Island cotton, a prized cotton from the sea islands of the Low Country.

So, when it came time to shoot the 2019 J. McLaughlin resort collection, we knew Sea Island would be the perfect backdrop. After all, between the legendary golden light, miles of beach dunes and ancient oaks covered with Spanish moss, there’s much to love about this beautiful place. Then, when we learned that The Cloister, the legendary resort founded in the Roaring Twenties, was celebrating its 90th anniversary and our dear friend Jane Gill, former 1980s top fashion model, could join us for the photo shoot, we packed our duffel bags and headed south to Sea Island.

As you’ll discover in our new February catalog, photographed by the immensley talented Arnaldo Anaya, we made the most of our long weekend in the Low Country. In between photographing Jane and our other favorite models at The Cloister, St. Simon’s Lighthouse and other local landmarks, we found time for a fabulous Low Country boil on Rainbow Island, a cruise on the Sea Island Explorer and other memorable experiences.

If you’ve never been to Sea Island, I hope we’ve inspired you to visit this unique corner of the world. When you check in at The Cloister, tell them J.McLaughlin sent you!

Sincerely,
Kevin
