Summer Trend Watch

Your guide to the biggest trends of summer is here—from retro Palm Beach prints to our favorite post-quarantine, dressed-up-all-day-long look to start wearing immediately. So long, sweatpants.

1. SUN-FADED TROPICALS

Palm Beach, here we come! The muted tones of these tropical prints have a retro, sun-bleached vibe that feel straight out of a Slim Aarons photograph. Wedges and some winged sunglasses complete the look. (Bonus points for a 60’s socialite headscarf.)

2. SAINT-TROPEZ SAILOR

The French have a mastery of maritime style that is both nonchalant and cohesively put-together all at once. Nautical stripes are an obvious must, but it’s the gold-buttoned bottoms that do it for us. Our slim white Hastings jeans feel sleek and a little bit fancy (especially with Bardot bangs and a red lip), while our denim Domenica shorts are perfect for boat or beach.

3. THE DAY-OR-NIGHT DRESS

If ever there were a post-pandemic pendulum style swing, it would be the return to dressing UP. An all-over-floral dress (in a micro-botanical print that feels very English countryside) is the ultimate antidote to endless months of, well, not getting dressed. Whether inside or out, all alone or with a date, WFH or at a garden party (the delicious silk twill is comfy enough for all of the above), this dress has us yearning to put on pretty things again.

4. BEACH BEIGE

A more relaxed formula for summer neutral-dressing, sandy-colored textiles feel beachy in a way that’s less prim than stark white (though we love that look too) and more effortless than bold brights. It’s the perfect palette for pattern-mixing, like leafy palm with classic gingham, that just gets better when layered with creams, tans and beiges in assorted tones and textures.

5. CASCADING MAXI

No summer wardrobe is complete without a foolproof maxi skirt that goes just as perfectly with a string bikini as it does a party top. This tiered cotton-linen blend will feel light and airy, while the subtle smocking at the back waist provides extra comfort. for all of the above), this dress has us yearning to put on pretty things again.

5. EVERYTHING EYELET

Bring on the romance. Summer’s most flirty fabric, we love the peek-a-boo nature of delicate eyelet that manages to somehow be simultaneously demure. Plus it pairs just as well dressed up with a skirt and wedges as it does with jean shorts and a bathing suit peeking through.
